Publications about Garden of Eden exhibition in Las Vegas media
My current show in Contemporary Arts Center in Las Vegas has got some little publications here and there.
One of them is by Janessa Kenway in Las Vegas City Life :
"ANDREZEJ MACIEJEWSKI -- Garden of EdenFor dessert, dig into the sumptuous fruit fests of old Renaissance masters. Opulent, still-life compositions of classic greats such as Henri Fantin-Latour and Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio are re-created and updated by photographer Andrzej Maciejewski. But such perfection comes at a price. Through science and chemicals, fruits become larger and new hybrids emerge. Each orange, pear and pomegranate photographed is tagged or stickered, and certified by FDA produce standards. Maciejewski's images become a cautionary tale of modern modification and agricultural abundance. (Dec. 1-Dec. 31, CAC) JENESSA KENWAY "
Funny how usually my first name gets misspelled. I think this weird "z" in it is too much.
Another little note, by Mark Adams in Las Vegas Weekly
Contemporary photographer revisits style of old masters in CAC exhibit
Down the street is a place where you can purchase tomatoes engineered to grow larger than your combined fists, and seasonal fruits no matter what the weather’s like outside. It’s your local grocery store, and to Andrzej Maciejewski it illustrates our society’s naïve approach to nature.
The Ontario-based artist contends that while the neatly arranged, mass-produced and bar-coded natural bounty of the produce section might look ideal, many characteristics such as taste and humanity have been lost somewhere between seed and supermarket.
That’s what Maciejewski hopes to demonstrate in Garden of Eden, a collection of 24 still-life color photographs on display at the Contemporary Arts Center inside the Arts Factory.
“When you look closely, or when you start tasting those vegetables or fruits, or when you look at how they are packaged and where they come from, or thinking how they are produced, it looks completely different,” Maciejewski says. “I just sort of suggest the question, ‘Are they still the same thing?’”
And another one, by Natalie Cullen in 8NewsNow :
New Twist on Old Masters
A new art exhibit has opened featuring a new take on Old World masters.
Canadian artist Andrzej Maciejewski now has a show at The Contemporary Arts Center, 107 E. Charleston Blvd. The show titled “Garden of Eden” features recreations of master art works from Dutch, French and Italian painters of the 17th and 18th century. The works have a unique and modern twist.
The show is open through January 21. This is the second solo presentation of the series. It was first featured at a gallery in Portland. After being on display in Las Vegas, the works will also visit galleries in Texas, Florida, California, and New Jersey.
The Contemporary Arts Center is open from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

update on being busy
Recently, I was too busy to post anything. For last two weeks I was teaching in Fleming College, Haliburton School of Arts .
Now I am printing photographs for my upcoming shows: group show in The Gallery Project in Ann Arbor, MI and for the solo show in Contemporary Arts Center in Las Vegas, NV.
It's going to be a very busy fall. I have to print 147 photographs in size 24x30 inches, dry-mount 24 of them and frame 120. And then I have to crate them and ship them, including two sets that I am sending to Europe. A little bit overwhelming, but my agent tells me I should get used to that.
Below you may see one of my VIP Portraits. Four of them (accompanied by one picture from Garden of Eden) are now participating in the Potato Revolution in WAH Center, Brooklyn, NY.

Some more snapshots from Backlight
Here you can see some more snapshots from Backlight Photography Festival in Tampere, Finland. Some of them were taken by myself, some by my friend Piotr Kurdej. I really enjoyed being in Backlight and I would like to thank all the great people, who made it possible and who made my stay there so pleasant, including Ulrich Haas, Antii Haapio and Irma Puttonen from Photographic Centre Nykyaika.

OAC project grant
I have received a very good news today. I have been awarded a Project Grant for Established Artists from Ontario Arts Council. This is a grant for the project titled The Seed.
The Seed will in some way compliment my recent project Garden of Eden. I plan to create ten trios of photographs. In each trio the first photograph will show one single seed, the next one – the entire plant which grew out of this specific seed, with all the fruits, leaves, roots, etc; the last one – all the seeds coming from this one plant. I will portrait following vegetables:tomato, cucumber, pepper, hot pepper, bean, peas, corn, squash, pumpkin and sunflower (it's not strictly a vegetable, but you eat the seeds or make oil of them, so it counts). I will plant them in my own organic garden in Yarker, Ontario. The single-seed photographs will be the close-ups, to show how beautiful and various the seeds are. The main photograph of the whole plant will be done in a way a bit similar to Garden of Eden, with great care about light and about the set, which will emanate the feeling of beauty and abundance. The third picture in the trio will be the simplest one – just all the seeds displayed on the white paper, to show clearly their number.
It has always amazed me that one tiny seed gives birth to a huge plant with a lot of fruits and hundreds of new seeds. It is an example how powerful and generous the nature really is. It is also amazing that such an impressive effect may be achieved using organic methods, with just a little bit of work, care and love.

Yesterday there was publication on my Garden of Eden in Huffington Post.
And today there is another - in Artadox.
I wish I knew about all of them, also the ones that appeared in print only and I may never find out - unless someone sends me a copy.

Preparations for exhibition in Portland, OR
The exhibition of Garden of Eden in the Camerawork Gallery in Portland, Oregon opens on August 20th. I am sending the unframed prints because they have their own, very nice display system in the Gallery, but still I had some headache with how to pack my works for shipping. The boxes available on the market are expensive and besides I didn't like any of them anyways. So I have just built my own box:

Backlight Photography Festival in Finland - I am going there
I will be going to Finland in September. The Photographic Centre Nykyaika and the Tampere University of Applied Sciences invited me to come and give the lecture and three days workshop for the Tampere University students, in connection with presentation of my Garden of Eden project at the Backlight Photography Festival.
I am looking forward to this adventure. The Backlight Festival 2011 will host several great photographers and I think I will have a great time there.

Few words about upcoming exhibitions
On the right hand side you'll find a list of my upcoming exhibitions. I will try to keep it up to date and from time to time I will post some additional details in here.
For now I have several exhibitions coming for both Garden of Eden and Weather Report. The nearest one is a show of Garden of Eden in the Camerawork Gallery, in Portland, Oregon. Then, several photographs from Garden of Eden will be presented at the Backlight Photo Festival in Tampere, Finland. Then in November Garden of Eden will be in Las Vegas Contemporary Arts Center and then, from January 2012, shows of Weather Report start in Canada and probably from February in Poland.
